Hospitals in jeopardy Cuts to Medicaid could also mean pregnant women in rural counties have fewer places to give birth. Sheps Center for Health Services Research at UNC Chapel Hill, said the program is a major source of funding for the states rural hospitals, many of which are struggling financially.
